Developing Indian Physician Scientists Workshop 2020

The Developing Indian Physician Scientists (DIPS) workshops aim to ignite scientific curiosity in young doctors, while promoting an understanding of the frontiers of medicine and related sciences. The workshops will provide training in quantitative methods and research methodology, and an opportunity to young clinicians to discuss the relevance of biomedical research and career options. 

The DIPS2020 was organised at the CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR IGIB) Delhi from 21st to 23rd February 2020 and was attended by over 65 participants from across the country. The workshop was supported by the DBT Wellcome Trust India Alliance 

The workshop featured speakers including Prof Gagandeep Kang, Dr Rakesh Aggarwal, Dr Anurag Agarwal, Dr Karishma Kaushik, Dr Pooja Rao, Dr Vidur Mahajan, Dr Tavpritesh Sethi, Dr Sridhar Sivasubbu, Dr Manikandan , Dr Debojyoti Chakraborty, Dr Debasis Dash , Dr Sivaprakash Ramalingam and Dr Vinod Scaria.

Dr Divya Tiwari and Dr Sabuj Bhattacharya discussed the initiatives of the DBT Wellcome Trust India Alliance as well as the programmes in areas of clinical and basic research. 

This years' programme featured a session on AI in Healthcare handled by leaders from academic as well as from the Industry. Dr Pooja Rao of Qure.ai and Dr Vidur Mahajan of CARING mentored the participants along with Dr Anurag Agrawal, Dr Debasis Dash and Dr Tavpritesh Sethi.

Students had an opportunity to interact with the faculty mentors as well as had a chance to visit the facilities and infrastructure at CSIR IGIB 

This years DIPS programme was dedicated to Prof MK Bhan, pioneer Indian Clinician Scientist and former Professor of Pediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi and former Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology
