CAREPID Spotlight on Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders


A one-day Clinician Education programme on Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders CAREPID was conducted at the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH), Government Medical College Kozhikode on Sunday, August 18, 2019

Dr Ekbal Bappukunju, member of the Kerala State Planning Commission inaugurated the CAREPID programme and also released the Patient Education handbook, a key step in increasing awareness among patients, families and caregivers.

Prof KP Aravindan, former Professor of Pathology Government Medical College Kozhikode spoke at the ocassion and highlighted how science has significantly impacted the knowledge and molecular diagnosis of diseases. Dr Pratap Somnath, Dr Mohandas Nair and Dr Sathi V, faculty at Government Medical College also highlighted the research conducted at the institute in collaboration with CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Rare Genetic Diseases and facilitated by the DHR funded Medical Research Unit (MRU) at the college.

The CME programme was well attended by faculty and residents from across Kerala. Faculty members from Government Medical College Kozhikode, NIIH Mumbai , CSIR IGIB , Apollo Hospitals Chennai and St Stephen's Hospital spoke about the various aspects of Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders with specific emphasis on disease diagnosis and Management in India.

This programme was organised as part of the ongoing collaborative research in RareDiseases between CSIR IGIB and Calicut Medical College as part of the GUaRDIAN initiative on Rare Disease Genomics and funded by CSIR India.
